I love my kitchen ! It is the heart of my home
where the day starts and end. That is why I choose a functional and pretty kitchen. When I got the opportunity to redesign my kitchen I just knew this time I will make it work both aesthetically and functionally.
I get excited when I see open shelves in a kitchen, it is an opportunity to be creative. It gives character and a warm homely feeling, the feel of a well lived in kitchen.
Open shelves break up straight lines and the cold look of solid modern cabinetry. If you want to break away from ultra modern to english modern or country style, open shelves is your answer. It is important for a kitchen to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Therefore the styling is just as important to avoid clutter and a "busy look".
Start by choosing your space for shelving wisely, in the right corner or space to be functional and easy on the eye. Choose a neutral color palette to style the space in order to avoid clutter. Play with depth, height, symmetry and texture,
In my own kitchen I designed a corner for my everyday use Stainless steel pots and a corner for my coffee station. It is well displayed and in reach for everyday use.

I saw the opportunity for displaying my vases and kitchen equipment, on open wall spaces in my scullery above the washing area and fridges, It is out of sight when you are in the kitchen and it is perfect if you run out of cabinet space. A shelve is a perfect space for all your entertaining decor pieces that you do not use everyday.

I have designed "pigeonhole" shelving above our fridges for all our kitchen equipment. If you do go this route, measure each item and plan the space to make sure you use every inch/cm.
With open shelves you create contrast, warmth and beauty all in one, with functionality and aesthetics in mind. A crisp modern look with character!
Enjoy your kitchen and make it a home.

Love it!
